New York Personal Injury Attorneys Represent Victims of Truck Accidents

Hauppauge law firm helping those injured in commercial vehicle wrecks

In 2014, there were nearly 12,000 crashes in New York involving large trucks. These wrecks resulted in 79 deaths and over 5,000 injuries. At the law firm of Reynolds, Caronia, Gianelli & La Pinta, P.C., we represent those who have been injured or killed in these crashes. Our attorneys have more than 30 years of combined experience seeking justice for victims of commercial vehicle wrecks.

Types of truck accidents on New York roadways

Truck crashes and other commercial vehicle collisions are not uncommon on area roads such as the Long Island Expressway and Veterans Memorial Highway. Accidents involving 18-wheelers and other large trucks may include:

  • Rollovers. Blown tires, improper load balancing and sudden swerving can cause a truck to tip over. Large tractor-trailers are especially prone to tipping because of their high center of gravity. When a big rig falls on its side and blocks the roadway, the accident is commonly called a rollover.
  • Jackknife accidents. Tractor-trailers are held together at a point of rotation known as a king pin or a fifth wheel. When a trailer turns too far in either direction toward the tractor, the vehicle may become immobilized and block traffic. A jackknifed truck has the potential to cause accidents or even pileups.
  • Underride collisions. Due to the height of commercial trucks, they have the potential to drive over a car’s bumper, causing the windshield and passenger compartment to smash directly into the body of the truck or the trailer. These “underride” accidents are extremely dangerous.

Accidents also occur when trucks lose their loads on the roadway and when air brakes fail. Reckless actions by truck drivers such as speeding or failing to check blind spots can also lead to wrecks. While trucks are not allowed on the Northern State Parkway, other commercial vehicles such as light-duty pickup trucks are involved in accidents on that roadway.

Getting justice for those hurt in tractor-trailer crashes

Those who have been involved in an accident with a commercial vehicle often suffer grievous personal injuries. Our experienced attorneys represent victims of T-bone crashes, head-on collisions, and other serious accidents who have suffered harm in the form of:

  • Head injuries
  • Neck and back injuries
  • Broken bones
  • Internal injuries
  • Crushing injuries
  • Amputations

Our firm also represents families who have lost a loved one in a commercial vehicle accident in Nassau and Suffolk counties by bringing wrongful death suits. While no amount of money can compensate these families for their tragic loss, they have a right to seek compensation for the very real expenses they face following the death of a loved one.
